I'll probably save $200 and just get the Kona, but people seem to love their Flights so much. When it comes down to it, I would probably purchase the Redline Monocog Flight if it were at MSRP, but its $100 over I would get whichever bike is the better value (I'm guessing that the Unit is.) Does anybody think the Flight is a better value at its MSRP than the Unit? The Flight frame weaker? (but lighter) than the Monocog frame. Issues with the Flight are cheap headset?Ģ. Unit frame not the equivalent of the Reynold's 853 steel, probably similar to the steel on the Monocog.ġ. Unit frame looks a bit weak in the HT area.ģ. I hear the Unit's P2 fork is unforgiving.Ģ. There are some rocky local trails that rigid would probably destroy me, so I have some concerns about the Unit. Park riding, freestyle, grinding rails or dropping gates, Redline means BMX. I may decide to ride SS more often than not, but I haven't done much yet. ![]() Intended use is muddy, wet, and snowy trails and probably some extended rocky rides. I know I could get the Monocog and $470 in upgades, but I don't want to deal with it. ![]() I decided against the Monocog 29er - MSRP $499 (shop price is $550) because I would prefer to just have decent components to begin with, and the brakes would have to go right away. The other shop doesn't have a Unit to test ride. '10 Kona Unit 2-9 - MRSP $799 (shop price is $799)Ī local shop had a 19" '09 Monocog Flight to ride, but it was a bit too small. '10 Redline Monocog Flight 29er - MSRP $899 (shop price is $999) This is a huge chunk of change for me.ĭue to budget and local availability, I have decided on one of the following options: I can climb all of the tight switch back that i could on any other bike that i've ridden.ĥ chilis because you get a lot of bike for your money.Ĥ overall because some of the parts are shoddy, but at this price i'll not complain too much.I am new to 29ers and SS, so I am posting this in the Single Speed and the 29er Forum.Ĭan I get some input to help me decide? If you set your tires up tubeless like it did, I would resist the urge to drop too much pressure in the front. It's nice to fly down hills and not have to think about brakes. Disk brakes are another worthy upgrade that makes it a little more enjoyable. I think that 9-speed chain will work out better. 5 thoughts on Redline MonoCog 29er Update 2 Ghost Rider says: Augat 3:45 am. ![]() It does everything well actually.īecause it weighs a ton it's a little sluggish on the climbs but that is only gonna make me stronger. When I went to change the rear sprocket I tried a new tool out, Pedro’s Trixie Fixed Gear Multi-Tool 25.00. It tooks a few rides to get used to riding rigid but i'm in love with it now.
